Driveway pavers in Lehi UT - a firm, level drive that carries your cars

Cracked concrete or a tired asphalt drive? We'll replace it with a paver driveway that's built to stay firm and level.

What goes into a paver driveway in Lehi?

Driveway pavers in Lehi, UT go down in layers: compacted soil, a compacted base, edge restraints along the sides, a leveled bed of sand and interlocking concrete pavers on top. Laid that way, the pavers carry cars as well as foot traffic, so you get a driveway that looks good and does its job.

Most people call us because the old concrete has cracked or heaved, the asphalt is breaking up, or an earlier paver job has sunk in the tire tracks. At Precision Lehi Concrete and Masonry we're based in Lehi and work in the cities around it, from Provo up into the Salt Lake Valley, and before I talk price I'll want to know a few things: how big the drive is, what's on it now and what you park on it. The price mostly turns on the size, what has to come out before we start, how much base your ground needs and which pavers you pick, while the schedule turns on dry weather and on the city permit when the job needs one. The estimate is where you get the number for your own driveway.

How we lay driveway pavers, layer by layer

  1. We start by tearing out the old concrete or asphalt and digging down to the soil, then we compact that soil and build the base up in layers, compacting each one, because a paver driveway lives or dies on what's under it and that's where most of our time goes. If the ground we find is soft or wet, I'll tell you before we build on it, since that's something you only learn once the job is open. Next we set edge restraints along the sides so the pavers can't creep outward, screed a level bed of sand, and lay pavers made to carry cars, not the thin slabs that look nice on a patio. We vibrate the pavers down into the sand, sweep sand into the joints so they lock together and leave the site clean.

  2. A driveway rarely stands on its own. When yours is cut into a slope or the yard drops off beside it, retaining wall construction holds the ground so the edge of the drive stays supported, and we can build both at once. If the brick steps, porch or pillars along the drive are crumbling, masonry restoration brings them back so they don't look tired next to the new pavers.

Why Lehi homeowners call us for paver driveways

  1. I come out to look myself

I do the estimate myself, and our crew of masons does the work with me on site. The person who looked at your ground and answered your questions is the one standing there when it's dug out.

  2. In business since 2021

I spent my school summers mixing mortar on a masonry crew, and we're best known for working out why brick, block or stone failed before anyone picks up a trowel. On a driveway, that means finding out why the old one cracked or sank so we don't build the same problem into the new one.

  3. Licensed and insured, with a guarantee

We're licensed and insured, which matters when a crew and heavy compaction equipment are working on your property. The work is backed by our satisfaction guarantee.

  4. Built to Lehi City standards

When driveway work falls under a Lehi City permit, all of the city's design standards and public improvement specifications apply to it. We build that part of the job to those standards, so what the city inspects is done the way the city asks for it.

On a paver driveway, the part that counts most is the part you'll never see again once the pavers are down. Call (385) 338-6022 or send us a few details about your driveway, and I'll come take a look.

What happens after you call about a paver driveway

  1. Call or send us details

Call (385) 338-6022 or use the contact form, and tell us roughly how big the driveway is, what's on it now, what you park on it and when you'd like to start. Those few details let me show up ready for your job.

  2. I look over your driveway

I come out myself, ask a few questions and check what's going on under the old surface, especially if it has sunk or cracked. You get a price for your driveway along with my reasons for the base, pavers and layout I'd use.

  3. We handle the city permit

If your driveway work needs a Lehi City permit, we take care of the application and book the inspections with the city. The city wants that work finished and inspected by its street inspector within 30 days of the permit being issued, so we set the start date to fit inside that window.

  4. We build it, then walk it

Our crew of masons does the work with me on site, from tearing out the old surface to sweeping the last joints full. When it's done, we walk the finished driveway with you before we pack up.

Driveway paver questions from Lehi homeowners

What kind of pavers work for a driveway in Lehi?

Interlocking concrete pavers work for a driveway, because laid over a proper base they carry cars, while thinner, larger paving slabs can flex and crack under the load. As a rule, a home driveway uses the same paver thickness as a walk or patio, and streets use thicker pavers because they carry heavier loads.

How do I keep driveway pavers from sinking?

Make sure the soil under them is compacted well, because good compaction keeps settlement to a minimum and decides how level the driveway stays. That step gets buried once the job is done, so ask every contractor you're comparing how they compact the soil. Where soil stays wet part of the year or is clay, a fabric layer called geotextile can go under the base to keep the soil out of it and cut down on ruts, and I'll tell you whether your site calls for it.

When is the best time to install a paver driveway in Lehi?

Pavers can go in whenever there's no heavy rain or snow and the base isn't frozen, which is what one industry installation specification calls for. Plan your start date around dry weather and unfrozen ground, since a stormy stretch can push it back.

What does a Lehi City permit require for driveway work?

A Lehi City permit puts conditions on the contractor, including replacing all concrete within fifteen working days. It also carries the inspection window and city standards mentioned above, and we handle all of it for you. Whether your driveway needs the permit is something I'll go over with you at the estimate.

How much does a paver driveway cost in Lehi?

The cost of a paver driveway in Lehi comes down to its size, what has to be torn out first, how much base your ground needs and which pavers and pattern you choose. If you park a heavy truck or trailer on it, one cost guide suggests setting the pavers on a concrete slab, which is more work, so we'll talk about whether yours needs that. I'll give you the figure for your driveway when I come out.

How do I take care of permeable pavers in winter?

Skip the winter sand, because it can clog permeable pavers, sweep up any sand that did get used the following spring, and go easy on deicing chemicals. That's the guidance for permeable pavement, which is used on driveways as well as walks, parking lots and alleys, so it's an option worth asking about at your estimate.

  • Retaining wall construction

If your new driveway runs along a slope or sits below a bank, a retaining wall keeps soil off the pavers and supports the ground at its edge.

  • Masonry restoration

Old brick steps, pillars or a porch with worn joints and chipped faces can be repaired and cleaned so they suit a new paver driveway.
