Outdoor kitchen masonry in Lehi UT - a block grill island built to fit your grill

Tired of hauling the grill out every spring? We build a block island around it, finished in stone, brick or stucco.

A round stone fire feature with flames and a serving board sits among patio chairs in a landscaped yard.

What does it take to build an outdoor kitchen in Lehi?

Outdoor kitchen masonry in Lehi means building your cooking island from concrete block and covering it with stone, brick or stucco, so your grill and counters live outside year-round in a frame that won't rot or burn.

Most people who call me have a grill sitting on a bare patio and a picture in their head of something more permanent. The price mostly comes down to how big the island is, how many appliances it holds and which finish you pick, and the schedule usually turns on how long the countertops take to make and when the gas and electric lines get run. When your project needs a permit, we handle the application and book the city's inspections, and I'll go over what yours calls for when I come out.

How we build outdoor kitchen masonry

  1. Before we lay out any block, I ask you to choose your grill and other appliances, so the openings fit and nothing gets torn out later. We build the frame from concrete block, not wood, because block won't rot, warp or catch fire next to a hot grill. Once the block is up, the gas and electric lines get run into place before any facing goes on, and then we set the stone, brick or stucco you picked and get the island ready for its counters.

  2. A kitchen out back usually needs a good way to reach it, so we can do the walkway construction from the back door to the island in the same project. If you'd like the cooking area set off from the yard, or a low wall people can sit on, our brick wall installation can match a brick-faced island so it all looks planned together.

Why Lehi homeowners call us for outdoor kitchen masonry

  1. I do the estimate myself

I come out to look at your patio and work through the layout with you, and I'm on site with our crew of masons while they build it. The person who planned openings around your grill is the one checking them.

  2. In business since 2021

I started this company in Lehi in 2021 after spending my school summers on a masonry crew, and we work the cities around it, from Provo up into the Salt Lake Valley. We see a lot of backyards here with a plain concrete pad off the back door, and that's often where a grill island starts.

  3. Licensed and insured for this work

We're licensed and insured. That means you aren't carrying the risk if something goes wrong on your property while we're building.

  4. Backed by our satisfaction guarantee

Our outdoor kitchens are backed by our satisfaction guarantee. I'll also explain why I picked the block, mortar and facing for your island, so you know what you're paying for.

The most important part of an outdoor kitchen is getting the layout right before the first block goes down, so have your grill and finish in mind, then tell us about your project or call (385) 338-6022.

What happens when you call about an outdoor kitchen in Lehi?

  1. Call or send us a message

Call (385) 338-6022 or use the form, and we'll set a time for me to come out. It helps to tell us which grill and appliances you have in mind.

  2. I come out and look

I come out myself, look at your patio, the slab and where gas and power would come from, and we talk through stone, brick or stucco. You get an estimate for the island and finish you want, and I go over whether your job calls for a permit.

  3. We handle permits and build

Once you say go, we take care of any permit and inspection steps, and since the city asks for 24 hours' notice before any inspection, we build those visits into the schedule. Our masons lay the block, the lines get run, then the facing goes on, with me on site the whole way.

  4. We walk the finished island

When the masonry's done, I walk the finished island with you before we pack up. Ask about anything you see, and I'll tell you how it was built and why.

Outdoor kitchen questions from Lehi homeowners

Which outdoor kitchen finish costs the least, stone, brick or stucco?

Stucco over the block is usually the most economical finish. Stone veneer, a thin stone facing set in mortar over the block, is the one most owners pick, and brick facing is the other option. I'll price the finish you like on your own layout at the estimate.

What is the best way to frame a grill island, wood or block?

Block, or another material that won't burn, because Weber's installation guide for its built-in grills says wood or other combustible material isn't acceptable for the grill structure. That guide allows other noncombustible material on metal studs, and it prefers a stone or brick structure with tops that won't burn, such as granite or marble. We build ours from concrete block from the first plan.

How long does an outdoor kitchen take to build?

One national estimate puts the masonry for a standard L-shaped outdoor kitchen at 7 to 12 working days, plus time to line up the other trades. Countertops usually take another 2 to 3 weeks to make, so the whole project runs longer than the masonry alone.

Who issues building permits for an outdoor kitchen in Lehi?

Lehi's Building and Inspection Department handles and issues all building permits in the city. That's the office we apply to when your kitchen needs a permit, and I'll tell you at the estimate what your job calls for.

How do I vent a built-in gas grill island?

Weber's guide says the island holding its built-in grill needs vent openings set both high and low, so air can cross through the island if gas ever leaks. That's one more reason I want the grill picked before we lay out block, so the vents go in with the frame.

Should I paint the brick on my outdoor kitchen?

Usually not, because the color in brick runs all the way through it and holds up on its own. Most paint authorities agree painted outside masonry needs repainting every three to five years, so leaving brick bare keeps the upkeep down.

  • Walkway construction

A firm, even path from the back door to the grill keeps you from carrying plates across wet grass or uneven ground every time you cook outside.

  • Brick wall installation

A low brick wall can frame the cooking area, give guests a place to sit, and match a brick-faced island so the whole patio looks planned together.
